Text Presentation of food: Donuts ( / 2:02 PM)

Donuts are everyone favourite comfort food, donuts with rainbow sprinkles, chocolate sauce, strawberry jam filling and the list goes on.

Who can resist donuts looking like this:

Here are some pictures taken from the practical test on the presentation that can be done on food which is DONUTS!

First presentation: Donut presented on a round plate, served with strawberry jam, pink heart shaped sprinkles and decorated with white chocolate and chocolate swirls on top.

I think that the presentation is very well done as the donut looks very appetizing and appealing to me. All garnishes and food product are presented neatly as well.

Second presentation: Donut presented on a round plate with cartoon motifs (suitable for young children), decorated with white chocolate and chocolate swirls on top.

I think the wrong choice of plate was used for this presentation. The plate is not appropriate and a plain coloured plate without any cartoons should be used instead. However, the decorative swirls on the donut is interesting but doesn’t suit the colour of the plate.

Third presentation: Donut presented on oval shaped plate, decorated with sliced kiwi and a cherry, decorated with chocolate and chocolate swirls on top.
I think the the presentation is not bad, just that the student must take in consideration of the fact that fruits undergo oxidation and thus the colour change as seen for the kiwi fruit. With that, I would suggest that students cut and serve the fruit just before the picture taking and presentation of food. The shape of the plate used is also interesting and the colour variation to this presentation is not bad.

Fourth presentation: Glazed donut  presented on oval shaped red coloured plate, served and decorated with coloured jellybeans and heart shaped sprinkles.

I feel that the garnishes are not appropriate and the colour of the plate is not the right colour to be used for serving donuts. The colour of the plate makes the presentation look dull and uninteresting.

Fifth presentation: Donut served on a square plate, served with sliced peach and decorated with chocolate sauce on top.
I feel that when using fruits as garnishes, one should consider the effect of oxidation on fruits. However, the presentation can be improved by adding more garnishes to add more colour and make the presentation more interesting.

Sixth presentation: Donut served on a round red coloured plate, served with raisins.
I feel that the plate used during this presentation is not appropriate, the colour of the plate and the material of the plate which is melanin .Also the donut is placed out of the plate and this should not be the case during food presentation. There should be more colour combination to this food presentation, coloured sprinkles can be added.

Seventh presentation: 2 pieces of donut served on an oval plate with a paper dolly. The first piece of donut served with pink and blue coloured sprinkles and the second donut decorated with chocolate and chopped peanuts.
I feel that the portion of the donut is too much and only 1 piece of donut should be served. Overall, the presentaion of the donuts are very interesting and eye catching.

Last presentation: Glazed donut served on a round bowl.

I feel that the donut should be placed on a plate instead of a bowl. The bowl seems too small for the donut. Also, it would be better if more garnishes are added to the food presentation.

1. Home Baking Association (http://www.homebaking.org/index.html)

Their mission is to “Promote home baking by providing educators tools and knowledge to perpetuate future generations of home bakers.” In this website, it contains useful information and basic tips for baking, a checklist for a kitchen safe for cooking/baking, how to follow a balanced diet as well as how to read a food label.Apart from the the above, they also have simple baking activites and recipes that can be done as a family or can be used for the lower secondary pupils. what i like about this website is that it has a glossary A-Z on baking needs or anything related to baking.

Thus basically, this website only has basic information on the topics mentioned above and are not detailed. Therefore, the information is only useful to a certain extent or to just have a background knowledge on the topics.

2. Copykat recipes (http://www.copykat.com/)

This website has many recipes accompanied by the mouth watering pictures of the food. I get hungry just by looking at the pictures! The recipes on this website range from cake, appetizers, drink, chicken, bread, meat, soup, salad as well as recipes from readers.
This website also provides healthy recipes or recipes that have been modified for special diets, eg cookies for diabetic patients.

This website is also a place where readers can read tweets by Stephanie Manley (the creator of this website) follow her on facebook, as well as videos on youtube on cooking a few recipes.
Thus, using this two networking methods, her website is well loved by many. As for me, I would recommend everyone to visit this website as it has so so many yummy and simple to do recipes, I assure you that you will never run out of recipes to cook with students, for family or your loved one. This website targets mainly on adults, as well as teenagers who know they way through cooking as the some of the recipes require a certain level of knowledge.

3. Nutrition, making sense of healthy eating
(http://www.nutrition.com.sg/he/index.asp)

As for me, this website has been a familiar website as I have been using this ever since I was in secondary school. This website has been one of my useful resources for my research used for my coursework. This website contains many useful information which is explained in great depth, another useful website based on Singapore apart from the website from the Health promotion board (HPB).
Also, as this website is based on Singapore home economics/food & nutrition context, the information is accurate and most information you need to know can be found here. This includes, dietary guidelines for Singapore, healthy eating tips for all age groups, food labels, shopping smart, cooking tips as well as nutrition calculators.the target group for this website is mainly for students as well as teachers who find the content relevant to their studies.

4.Sewing organisation (http://www.sewing.org/index.html)

For this website, it has many easy to follow tutorials on sewing projects. This website encourages readers to be creative and add their own touches to the project. It caters mainly to readers who are at the intermediate level/ knowledge of sewing as readers have to at least have basic knowledge on how to operate a sewing machine and perform basic stitches.
However, on the downside, i feel that this website does not have any information about basic stitches or any sewing methods but a website that has only sewing tutorials.

5. Nourish Interactive (http://www.nourishinteractive.com/)

In general, this website to me is very eye catching and has many interactive activites and games that students can participate in. The visual are very attractive and appealing and I find myself interested in finding out more about this website. The games are very easy to follow and it’s interesting how students can learn about food as well as have fun along the way, they have games on how to read food labels, reading the food pyramid as well as others.
