Text Presentation of food: Donuts (Monday, October 18, 2010 / 2:02 PM)
Donuts are everyone favourite comfort food, donuts with rainbow sprinkles, chocolate sauce, strawberry jam filling and the list goes on.
Who can resist donuts looking like this:
Here are some pictures taken from the practical test on the presentation that can be done on food which is DONUTS!
First presentation: Donut presented on a round plate, served with strawberry jam, pink heart shaped sprinkles and decorated with white chocolate and chocolate swirls on top.
I think that the presentation is very well done as the donut looks very appetizing and appealing to me. All garnishes and food product are presented neatly as well.
Second presentation: Donut presented on a round plate with cartoon motifs (suitable for young children), decorated with white chocolate and chocolate swirls on top.
I think the wrong choice of plate was used for this presentation. The plate is not appropriate and a plain coloured plate without any cartoons should be used instead. However, the decorative swirls on the donut is interesting but doesn’t suit the colour of the plate.
Third presentation: Donut presented on oval shaped plate, decorated with sliced kiwi and a cherry, decorated with chocolate and chocolate swirls on top.
I think the the presentation is not bad, just that the student must take in consideration of the fact that fruits undergo oxidation and thus the colour change as seen for the kiwi fruit. With that, I would suggest that students cut and serve the fruit just before the picture taking and presentation of food. The shape of the plate used is also interesting and the colour variation to this presentation is not bad.
Fourth presentation: Glazed donut presented on oval shaped red coloured plate, served and decorated with coloured jellybeans and heart shaped sprinkles.
I feel that the garnishes are not appropriate and the colour of the plate is not the right colour to be used for serving donuts. The colour of the plate makes the presentation look dull and uninteresting.
Fifth presentation: Donut served on a square plate, served with sliced peach and decorated with chocolate sauce on top.
I feel that when using fruits as garnishes, one should consider the effect of oxidation on fruits. However, the presentation can be improved by adding more garnishes to add more colour and make the presentation more interesting.
Sixth presentation: Donut served on a round red coloured plate, served with raisins.
I feel that the plate used during this presentation is not appropriate, the colour of the plate and the material of the plate which is melanin .Also the donut is placed out of the plate and this should not be the case during food presentation. There should be more colour combination to this food presentation, coloured sprinkles can be added.
Seventh presentation: 2 pieces of donut served on an oval plate with a paper dolly. The first piece of donut served with pink and blue coloured sprinkles and the second donut decorated with chocolate and chopped peanuts.
I feel that the portion of the donut is too much and only 1 piece of donut should be served. Overall, the presentaion of the donuts are very interesting and eye catching.
Last presentation: Glazed donut served on a round bowl.
I feel that the donut should be placed on a plate instead of a bowl. The bowl seems too small for the donut. Also, it would be better if more garnishes are added to the food presentation.
